Mustelidae
- Otters, Weasels, Skunks
This Family consists of six sub-families,
29 genera and 64 species. They are widespread throughout the world except on
certain islands and island countries. The smallest species of carnivore in the
world belongs to this family, a tiny weasel that can have a body length as small
as 4.5 inches long and a weight of a few ounces. All four feet have five toes
and are used for digging. Some have webbed feet for swimming. Some of mustelids
use their anal scent glands for protection.
