Procyonidae
This family consists of two sub-families, 6 genera and 18 species. This family
has four animals well-known to most people: the raccoon, coatimundi, kinkajou
and ringtail. The kinkajoy has a prehensile tail and the coatimundi has a semi-prehensile
tail. Size and weight are varied with the species. All walk planitgrade - that
is, they walk on the soles of their feet (like we do) not on their toes, like
cats and dogs. In most species the males are slightly larger than the females.
